Servicing your new car without voiding the warranty
You have the right to have your new vehicle serviced by a qualified mechanic of your choice. Twins Performance can service your car while it's under manufacturer's warranty and endorse your log book records. Our work carries our own warranty and does not affect your statutory warranties.
What the ACCC says
According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, dealers cannot declare a warranty void just because the vehicle was serviced by someone other than the dealer.
What you need to make sure of
- The mechanic is qualified
- The service follows the manufacturer's specifications
- Genuine or appropriate quality parts are used
- The log book is completed and endorsed
If a warranty issue arises that is unrelated to servicing, take the vehicle to the dealer.
Statutory warranty
Under Australian Consumer Law, buyers can seek a refund, compensation, repair or replacement if goods are faulty, don't do what they're supposed to, or have hidden defects. Requiring customers to use a particular service provider is generally prohibited under competition law.
